Co-Learning With Children

Within a few years after they are born, parents begin to worry about their child’s ‘education’. There are dreams, expectations, curricula, schools, and so on for a child to comply with. In these processes, have we missed something? Have we ever asked what is in the child’s mind? Does a child have any say in her/his own ‘education’? Should s/he be encouraged to follow her/his own process of learning? Can we facilitate each child’s learning in her/his own preferred way? Is there something we (parents/teachers) have to learn in this process? Our first and foremost initiative focuses on this. At this stage, it is an entirely family experiment but perhaps we can share, discuss and evaluate this initiative in light of other various initiatives including standard educational processes. This section shall facilitate these discussion and explorations.

Immersive Exploration With Students And Researchers

Beyond the standard university curriculum and our professional goals, do we see some relevance in connecting back to humble contexts? Can important learning take place in a mundane urban or rural context, and perhaps contribute back to the same context? Can we gain important insights about our own professional goals by engaging with so called non-professional communities? Shall we first understand the problems in our society before we begin (or during) our professional career at national or global level? We invite students and researchers to immerse in a variety of rich contexts to enrich their learning while also contributing humbly to a larger societal cause. This may be a break in your educational calendar or a component of your degree pursuit…there is so much to be explored and unraveled for mutual understanding and cooperation. An immersive experience could be a critical turning point in your learning process.

Discourses (Symposia)

Learning becomes richer and more meaningful when we share, discuss, debate and engage in constructive deliberations. We aim to bring together thinkers, learners, researchers and practitioners time to time at multiple venues to facilitate a mutual learning as well as networking processes. We will be announcing our first such event shortly, which is going to focus on vernacular building knowledges and practices, and their relevance in contemporary built environment. Please stay tuned for updates.

Publications

As we come up with a product following a learning process or experiment, we wish to share it publicly. The publications initiative will aim to disseminate our learning through print, digital or audio-visual materials free or at low cost depending on the situation. Please take advantage of this initiative in whatever way such publications would be useful. Stay tuned for announcement of first set of publications.

Community Heritage Repository

Each society or context has its own unique features, historical memories, cultural triumphs or celebrations, foods, traditions and so many identifiers. Each place has multiple layers that define the place, and so is with each community. However, we ignore them knowingly or unknowingly and wipe these features out for a ‘want’ of something else. Perhaps we could fulfillour wishes without wiping out our own ‘self’ – at individual, family, society and place level. This initiative will be launched soon following a pilot stakeholders consultation process, please stay tuned for further updates. If you would like to collaborate on this initiative, please get in touch with us.

Fun And Learn

Does learning need to be always a serious or boring enterprise? Can we learn while having fun? Beyond the early childhood ‘play group’ education, are there opportunities of learning higher lessons while engaged in fun activities? This initiative seeks to work with businesses to integrate learning with various economic / entertainment/tourism ventures.
