2025 was my most-travelled year so far - around 107,000 kilometers covered, split between flights, trains, buses, walking and other local transportation. As an end of year recap, this photo journal is a selection of pictures I took from planes, trains, buses and cars in 2025 - one image for each segment or trip that covered a distance of approximately hundred kilometers or more (from 97 to ~6900 kilometers). These pictures are not necessarily my best from the year, but I think the views reflect the raw travel experience.

The captions contain information about the transportation method and/or operating company, the route, registration numbers of the exact plane or vehicle if available and a rough estimation of the photo location, with occasional narrative sentences to provide context or atmosphere.

Taken from PH-BKM on KLM flight 612, at Chicago O’Hare airport, United States, before a flight to Amsterdam, Netherlands.

This was my return flight after a 6 month stay in the United States, and I spent most of the flight in a reflective mood, wondering about how the year would evolve.

Waking up after an 8 hour flight to this view, it took me a moment to realize that the hazy white ground below was the snow-covered desert. The cluster of lights is the city of Ulaanbataar

Istanbul is a city split between Asia and Europe. This is a view from the European side - across the cloudy portion in the top-right corner is Asia.

This picture is not about the view outside, instead it is about the long black bag which contains my guitar. This journey was the start of our move back from Ahmedabad to Nepal, and I transported my guitar during this trip. I needed a stable place to keep it during the train, so we designed this setup: the guitar, in its bag, placed between our berth and the table, attached to the window handle to prevent it from falling over.

Having turned 15 just a few days prior to this trip, I was now eligible to sit in the emergency exit seats, which have a minimum age requirement. This window seat did not have a useable window though, so this exit door was my view for the flight.

We got exit row seats again, but these newer planes have a different design of door that positions a window in the usual spot.

Taken from VH-YIW as Virgin Australia flight 457, overflying Palmerston while approaching Darwin, after a flight from Brisbane, Australia

There was no visible scenery on this night flight as we approached Darwin, untill this highway and the surrounding buildings came into view. It really gave me a realization about the density of the area we were now about to explore.

Taken from a Mazda CX-5 car, on a road trip from Darwin to Litchfield National park, Australia. | Some highways in Australia’s Northern Territory do not have a speed limit, and if there is one, it’s usually somewhere between 110 to 130 kilometers per hour.

Taken on December 25, from VT-EDE as Air India 215, approaching Kathmandu, Nepal, after a flight from New Delhi, India

The 4:30AM departure of this flight was extremely annoying as I didn’t get enough sleep during my overnight layover, but this sunrise mountain view was wonderful to experience.

Compiling this journal was a timely reminder of all my experiences this year. It ended up as one filled with travel, with a diverse and inspiring range of places and people. From the Mongolian desert and nomads to Australia’s landscapes and aboriginal culture, and the many Asian destinations in between, these new perspectives were enlightening to see and learn from. 2025 was an incredible year for me, and I enthusiastically look forward to everything 2026 will bring.
